The State Prosecutor General (State Prosecutor General – Procureur Général près la Cour des Comptes) heads the services of the General Prosecutor's Office of the Court of Auditors. With regard to the management of public finances and disputes heard before the Court of Auditors, he exercises, acting as a fiscal prosecutor - hence in English and French he is called, respectively, as prosecutor or procureur -, powers similar to those of the Prosecutor of criminal justice, namely:
He is present during the hearing of court cases, expressing an opinion on them.
He exercises legal remedies and means against the decisions of the judicial formations of the Court of Auditors.
He files applications for the imposition of civil liability against public officials in general, as well as against those who cannot justify the ownership of their property acquisitions (from where they are held).
He orders the conduct of an audit of the financial situation of public servants and officials.
